What A Long Strange Trip It’s Been

It’s weird to think that in only 11 days, we went over 3100 miles (not including however far we walked and subway-ed) and did all this stuff.

A few of the most memorable parts:

  • Stopping for dinner in Gary, Indiana and eating at a Subway completely encased in bulletproof glass.
  • The cutest little card shop in Pittsburgh (iirc, it’s called Kards Unlimited)
  • Washington, D.C.
    • a tour of the Capital
    • the Air and Space Museum (this had new significance to me, since I’ve met some of the people whose stuff was in there)
    • the American History Museum
    • the Natural History Museum
    • the Smithsonian Rare Coin Collection
    • every memorial/monument imaginable
    • getting a glimpse of the White House behind the numerous fences/barriers/road blocks
  • Philadelphia: the Liberty Bell and Independence Hall
  • New York City
    • the Statue of Liberty (much smaller than I expected)
    • the Brooklyn Bridge (much larger than I expected)
    • Central Park
    • the Guggenheim Museum
    • the Empire State Building
    • Chinatown
    • Little Italy
    • Greenwich Village
    • Rockefeller Center
    • the largest toy store in the world
    • Manhattan being amasingly simple to navigate
    • TIMES SQUARE FOR NEW YEARS EVE!!!
    • My uncle living in the most expensive/lavish apartment imaginable
  • Niagara Falls
  • Toronto: the Royal Ontario Museum
  • Chicago: Cassie’s apartment is exactly how I imagined it to be

New foods:

  • Pho (Vietnamese beef soup), Washington DC
  • Coconut soup, Washington DC
  • authentic(?) Philly cheese-steak sandwiches, Philadelphia
  • Dim-sum, Chinatown, New York City (I still don’t know what all I ate)
  • Gelato, Little Italy, New York City
  • Big Boy, middle-of-nowhere Michigan (I thought they’d gone out of business)
  • Ponderosa, Niagara Falls (OK, I’ve eaten there before, but not since elementary school)

Although we don’t see eye-to-eye on anything at all, I now have a huge amount of respect for Diana.

Pictures may or may not eventually make it onto Facebook.

If you want to hear more about my trip (or any part of it), leave a comment or email/IM me (I’ll be on IM again the evening of January 15).

What is THAT supposed to mean?

It’s exactly how you imagined it to be? Do clarify! I want to know what you imagined! HAHA!

Im glad you saw all you did! Isnt the Statue of Liberty SO much smaller than movies and pictures make it look? Its SO tiny!

And my show’s casting looks like it will be awesome! It isnt set yet, but almost. *BIG grin*

Between all the Neil Gaiman stuff and the Nightcrawler paraphernalia, it seemed like you had everything you loved on the walls. Your bookshelf was full of eclectic stuff (from Why We Get Sick to the Princess Mononoke Artbook to tomes about stage management), and everything from your Disney villians poster to the flyers in the hall seemed perfect for you. I even recognized that poster next to your bed from your Facebook picture. Everything in the room was uniquely Cassie. It was wonderful.

I wish we could have seen each other more this break. I fear that this was one of the last chances we’ll have to hang out together, since I don’t know when I’m coming back to Minnesota next. I’d love to keep in touch more than our usual once-every-other-month catch-up, though. You need to be on IM more often!

        Heheh

Huh. I gues yer right. About my room, that is. Its always cool – with the eclectic design and crazy eye candy, cuz almsot everyone has SOME reaction to my room. ^_^

Im sure we’ll get in to town at the same time sometime in the future. It’ll happen. I’ll try to get into email contact with ya – Im pretty good weekly-biweekly emails once I get started – though one hectic week can throw that off. *sheepish grin*

Strangely enough, there is actually a Big Boy not too far from Claremont–it is on the way to a mountain, I forget what it’s called. I went there once a long time ago with some friends from Pomona, it was a linguistics retreat and they have a whole cabin up there, it’s crazy.

Glad to know the trip went well!
